Espresso comes from Italy. So do frogmen.

Before there were Navy SEALs, the first combat swimmers slipped out of Italian harbors in the dark — the original "frogmen" who proved that a few men in the water could change a war. Every SEAL who's ever pulled on fins swims in that lineage, and every shot of real espresso traces back to the same coastline those first frogmen worked.

Italian Frogman Espresso is our salute to both bloodlines: Italian espresso tradition, American veteran-owned execution. Roasted in the USA by a company founded by a retired U.S. Navy SEAL — a frogman, the old-fashioned way.

The Frogman Story

"Frogman" isn't a nickname SEALs invented — it's one they inherited. The first combat divers in history were Italian: swimmers who pioneered underwater warfare and forced every navy on earth to take men-in-the-water seriously. The U.S. Navy answered with its own frogmen — the Underwater Demolition Teams of WWII — and the UDT frogmen became the direct ancestors of today's SEAL Teams.

Founder Tej Gill spent his SEAL career in that lineage. When we built our espresso, there was only ever one name for it.

Meet the dark roast side of the family: the Mariner's Blend story.

What It Tastes Like

This is espresso the way the espresso bar down an Italian side street would recognize it — but with the smooth-finish DNA every Warpath roast shares:

  • Flavor: bold, deep-roasted sweetness — caramelized sugar and dark cocoa, with a clean bite that cuts through milk
  • Crema: thick and honey-colored when pulled right
  • Finish: strong but smooth — built to drink straight, no sugar required
  • Format: whole bean, 12oz, roasted in the USA

Straight shots, americanos, or the base of a serious latte — it holds its flavor through milk instead of disappearing into it.

Roasted in the USA, the Old Way

Like Mariner's Blend, Italian Frogman Espresso is roasted in the American slow drum-roasting tradition pioneered by Jabez Burns — small batches, developed sugars, no scorched-bean bitterness. Italian style doesn't have to mean roasted in Italy. It means roasted with respect.

How to Pull It

Espresso machine: 18g in, about 36g out, 25–30 seconds. Running fast and sour? Grind finer. Slow and bitter? Grind coarser. Give the beans 7–10 days off roast for the sweet spot.

Moka pot (the true Italian home method): fill the basket level — don't tamp — medium-fine grind, low heat, and pull it off the flame when it gurgles.

AeroPress: 17g coffee, fine grind, 1:2 ratio, firm 30-second press — the closest thing to a shot without a machine.

No machine at all? Brew it strong in a French press and you've got the boldest cup in the house.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Italian Frogman Espresso whole bean or ground?

Whole bean, 12oz. Espresso is unforgiving about freshness — grind right before you pull.

Can I use it in a regular coffee maker?

Absolutely. "Espresso" describes the roast style, not a rule. It makes an exceptionally bold drip cup.

Why is it called Frogman?

The first combat swimmers in history were Italian frogmen; U.S. Navy frogmen (UDT) became the SEAL Teams. Our founder is a retired Navy SEAL. The name honors both.

Is it veteran-owned?

Yes — Warpath Coffee is founded and owned by retired U.S. Navy SEAL Tej Gill, and every bag is roasted in the USA.

After 45 yrs of burned black, I'll won't go back.Never realized how bad "burned bean" coffee tasted until my wife switched back to the old brand yesterday. Warpath B/Blend to start my day today and every day from now on.
